Colleen is a proud Mi’kmaw woman from Badger, NL. She is incredibly passionate about helping Indigenous youth and communities and has been working as a leader in these areas for over 20 years. She was an active volunteer with the local women's drum group for a number of years and served as a town councilor for several years as well. Colleen has been on the board director committee with EIWFSC and a peer facilitator with this organization as well. Her current role as program manager provides her with opportunities to educate and empower Indigenous people of Newfoundland Labrador. Colleen values listening to people’s personal stories and she uses the knowledge from these stories as a source of training to guide her on this journey. Colleen recognizes that Indigenous women and their children often suffer tremendously as victims in contemporary Canadian society. As a survivor herself, Colleen brings her skills and lived-experience to the role of Project Manager and she feels this role will further empower Indigenous people to engage with their communities in order to reduce violence against Indigenous women.
